"The next passage in my journey is a love affair. I am in love with Montana. For other states I have admiration, respect, even some affection, but with Montana it is love, and it's difficult to analyze love when you're in it. Once, when I raptured in a violet glow given off by the Queen of the World, my father asked me why, and I thought he was crazy not to see. Of course I know now that she was a mouse-haired, freckle-nosed, scabby-kneed little girl with a voice like a bat and the loving kindness of a gila monster, but then she lighted up the landscape and me. It seems to me that Montana is a great splash of grandeur. The scale is huge but not overpowering. The land is rich with grass and color, and the mountains are the kind I would create if mountains were ever put on my agenda. Montana seems to me to be what a small boy would think Texas is like from hearing Texans."- John Steinbeck
6.8.12 - Sunsets are definitely bigger in Texas. This is the first frame I have touched from six weeks and 6000 photos on the road. I couldn't resist posting at least one before beginning the massive task of sorting and processing everything.
Here's to the Red(woods), White, and Blue from the West coast! Last night about ten miles from our campsite the window on the truck's shell completely shattered. We spent the last three hours of daylight frantically cleaning thousands of pieces of glass. Today's goal is to find a glass repair shop open on Independence Day. Otherwise it's off to a Lowe's or Home Depot for some homemade repairs.
Today marks four weeks I've been on the road. I'll tentatively return to Charlottesville in two-ish weeks, but not before swinging through the Pacific Northwest, Montana, Wyoming, and possibly Colorado. Here are a few snaps from my phone that, for whatever reason, I never tweeted. Real pictures from my cameras will follow in a few weeks or more.Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park.
Goblin Valley State Park in Utah.
My adorable eighteen month nephew, Sullivan.
I'm heading out tomorrow for an extended road trip to the west, so no updates for a while. Here are a few frames from the road my last time out.
