This grizzled and scarred bull elk gazes into my lens as snow flurries increase. With eight points on each side of his antlers, this is a Monarch bull. Given his size, rack, and ubiquitous scarring, he was likely once the dominant male of his own harem. Now, past his peak, this beast spends time sparring with other satellite bulls and occasionally trying to peel off cows from another bull’s harem during the rut. November 2019.
